The Romanesque period was greatly
influenced by religion because there was a strong religious movement
during this time; there were over 1,500 churches built in 100 years. One
of the main things that I noticed throughout this presentation was the
emphasis on the church. The majority of the churches were based on a
basilica form, but there were many alterations and ad ons. Ambulatories
were one of the major components that were added onto the basilica style
church.
Favorite Architecture, Furniture, and Interior Design

The
Pisa Baptistry, located in Pisa, Italy, was one of my favorite pieces
of architecture from the Romanesque period. This location includes three
free standing buildings and has a cross shaped cathedral, which I find
to be both interesting and spectacular. I found this to be very
interesting because I did not know that there were two other buildings
associated with the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Another thing that I really
enjoyed from this section the Tabernicle. The reason that I really liked
learning about the Tabernicle was because there is a lot of mystery
involved. The Tabernicle was created in 1180 CE by an unknown person;
that is really all of the information that they have on this piece of
history.

I
looked at Kristina and Justine's blogs to learn more about the
Romanesque period. Kristina emphasized the rise of religion during this
period and put into perspective how many churches were built throughout
this time. Her post really helped me visualize the interiors that the
buildings in the Romanesque periods contained. Justine's blog discussed
the emperor during the Romanesque period and how he influenced what went on during that period. Because he encouraged the arts and religion, many churches were built.
